How to use Offly, in two minutes

This is a working walkthrough, not a video. Scroll, and the phone sets itself up step by step. Use the dots or the arrow keys to jump.

Step 1 of 12

Make Offly your home screen

Install Offly and open it. Android asks which home app to use. Choose Offly and tap Always. Your old launcher stays installed, so you can switch back any time.

Step 2 of 12

Pick your five

Choose the five apps you want on the home screen. Everything else stays one swipe away. Five is a limit, not a suggestion.

Step 3 of 12

Meet your new home screen

The time sits in the open ring, with the date beneath it. Five plain names, no icons, no badges. A quiet line at the bottom shows the time you've got back today.

Step 4 of 12

Swipe up for everything else

Every installed app, alphabetically, with a search box at the top. Swipe down for settings, left for usage, right for focus.

Step 5 of 12

Set a schedule

Settings → Schedules → New schedule. Name it, pick the hours and the days, choose the apps. This one rests social apps every evening from 6 to 10.

Step 6 of 12

Set a daily limit

Give an app a budget for the day. Presets or a slider, short sessions if you like, and a quiet warning five minutes before it runs out.

Step 7 of 12

Open a paused app

You get a plain screen: who set the rule, a countdown, and the exact time the app comes back. Take a counted three-minute break, or open anyway. The door is always there.

Step 8 of 12

Before a session

With a limit on, opening the app asks you to take a breath. Five seconds, a reminder of how many sessions are left, and a few things to do instead.

Step 9 of 12

Turn colour off

Grey screen makes feeds far less sticky. Turn it on after a set hour, during your rules, or for chosen apps. You keep three two-minute colour breaks a day.

Step 10 of 12

Hide an app for good

From an app's options, hide it for two hours, until Monday, or for good. For good has no undo: hold the button, and the only way back is to reinstall.

Step 11 of 12

Hand the phone to a child

Kids mode shows only the apps you allow, in grey, with a time cap and a slow touch. Leaving it needs your PIN or fingerprint.

Step 12 of 12

See your week

One quiet note a day and a recap on Sunday. Offly counts days kept, never days broken, and gives you a fresh start every Monday.
